पात्रे त्यागी गुणे रागी विरागी विषयेष्वपि।
शास्त्रे बोद्धा रणे योद्धा पुरुषः पञ्चलक्षणः॥

पात्रे - to the eligible
त्यागी - one who sacrifices
गुणे - character (good manners)
रागी - lover
विरागी - ascetic
विषयेष्वपि - विषयेषु + अपि

शास्त्रे - sciences
बोद्धा - knowledgeable
रणे - battlefield
योद्धा - fighter
पुरुषः - man's
पञ्चलक्षणः - five characteristics

Meaning: Sacrificing for the eligible (bestowing benevolence on the needy), lover of good manners, also ascetic about material pleasure, knowledgeable in sciences, (good) fighter in the battlefield - these are (good) man's five characteristics.
